Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 July 2026
Fictionary is a social party game, and we built it to collect as little of your information as possible. This policy explains what the app actually handles. Where this policy says “we” or “us”, it means Fictionary.
The short version: No account, no sign-up, no login. No advertising, no third-party analytics, no tracking. We do not sell or share your data with anyone.
What the app stores on your device
- Game progress: your XP, level, games played, and which modes you’ve unlocked. This is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to us.
- Purchase status: whether you own the “Fictionary Premium” upgrade. In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never see or store your payment details. Your entitlement is verified with Apple’s StoreKit service.
What is sent when you play multiplayer
When you host or join a multiplayer game, the app connects to our game server (hosted on Fly.io) over an encrypted connection. During a game session the following is transmitted so the game can function:
- The display name you type for that game (you choose this each time; it can be anything and is not tied to your identity).
- Your in-game actions: the room code, the bluffs and votes you submit, and scores.
This data lives only in memory for the duration of the game and is used solely to run the match between the players in your room. It is not written to a database, not logged to a profile, and is discarded when the room ends or the server restarts. We do not build any profile of you.
In-app purchases
Fictionary offers one optional purchase, “Fictionary Premium,” which unlocks premium game modes. Purchases are handled by Apple. We receive only Apple’s signed confirmation that the purchase is valid, not your card, billing address, or Apple ID.
User-generated content
In multiplayer, players type free-text answers that are shown to others in the same room to play the game. Answers are filtered for objectionable content and can be reported and hidden within the app. Answers are not stored after the round ends. See our Terms & Conditions for the rules on acceptable content.
Children
Fictionary does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. There are no accounts and no personal data collection.
Data retention
We keep no server-side records of your play. In-progress game state is held in memory only and is erased when the game ends or the server restarts.
Your rights
Because we don’t hold personal data about you on our servers, there is nothing for us to export or delete on request. To remove all locally stored game progress, delete the app from your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top and post the new version at this URL.
